How to Track Affiliate Links

Affiliate link tracking starts with clean outbound-click data, but serious optimization requires a reliable way to connect those clicks to conversions or revenue.

Track the outbound click

Use a dedicated redirect or click tracker to record the campaign, page, creative and unique click identifier before the visitor reaches the merchant.

Pass a sub-ID when allowed

Many affiliate networks allow a sub-ID or click reference to be passed through the affiliate URL. This lets conversion reports return the identifier later. Follow the network's exact parameter rules.

Use postbacks when available

Server-to-server postbacks can send conversion data from a network to your tracker without relying solely on a browser pixel.

Do not hide disclosures

Tracking does not change disclosure obligations. Clearly disclose material affiliate relationships where users can see them before or near the recommendation.

Build a decision path

For ClickMagick specifically, compare the tool with alternatives, test your own tracking flow during the trial and verify whether conversion data can return from the networks you use.
